Our diversity is not only racial and ethnic.
We are young and old.
We are economically diverse.
Our levels of education differ significantly.
Our cultural backgrounds are different.
We are not afraid of this diversity. We value it. Our worship experience at Grace reflects the range of our cultural differences. It is blended and inclusive so that we celebrate together how God by his grace has drawn us together into community.
We believe:
- God has put Grace here on the corner of Buckley and Sheldon and blessed us with many relationships for a purpose: to share the love of Jesus.
- Children and youth enrich our life in community.
- Neighborhood engagement expresses our Christ-given love.
- We all need to be cared for – in some way – all the time!
- People who love and need each other attract neighbors and others desiring community.
- Vibrant, joyful worship praises God and energizes all that we do.
Our strengths as a church are:
- Preaching
- Diversity
- Location
- Caring
- Acceptance
- Celebration
Land Acknowledgement
Grace Church acknowledges we minister on the beautiful ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe people, the People of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi.
We express gratitude and appreciation to the Indigenous peoples who have been living and caring for this land from time immemorial, who are still here, and will always continue to be present in this place.
For centuries, Indigenous people have demonstrated resilience and resistance in the effort to separate them from their land and ways of life. It is important for us to acknowledge and seek to understand the history that has brought us to reside in this land. As a body of Christ and as members who belong to one another, we are called to seek justice and to reverse the long-standing practices to erase Indigenous peoples’ history, language, culture, and existence.
We recognize the sovereignty of Michigan’s Indigenous nations and historic communities – both those who live here now and those who were removed from their homelands. The neighborhood in which Grace Church ministers was acquired from the Odawa, Ojibwe, Potawatomi nations in the Chicago Treaty of 1821.
Let us pause to consider where those who came before us have intersected with one another and where our stories may be in conflict or in harmony with one another. May we seek harmony today, reconciling as God has called us to do.
