Community Food Resources

Grace offers a food giveaway every Tuesday between 10 – 10:30am.

Doors open at 9:30am, access tokens are distributed at 9:45am, and the grocery line opens at 10:00am. Guests can join us early and enjoy some coffee, lemonade, and cookies while waiting for the food to be ready. No ID required, but we will note guests’ name, address, the number of people in the household, and the number of children, seniors, or veterans in the household. We always have meat, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, grains, and non-perishables. Food is provided by Feeding America of West Michigan and the Grace Church deacons.

Community Food Resources

Kent County offers the “Commodity Supplemental Food Program” (CSFP). The program works to improve the health of persons 60 years or older by supplementing their diets with nutritious United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodity foods. Eligible households receive a monthly distribution of food products, which may include cheese, milk, canned meat, plant-based protein, vegetables, fruits, grains, cereals and juices.

Kent County offers “The Emergency Food Assistance Program” (TEFAP Food Pantries). This program distributes United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) food to income eligible households in Kent County. The food is distributed quarterly through county wide distribution sites.  (Grace is not part of this network, so you can get food from Grace and from one of these other places.)

Grand Rapids Food Pantries: This is a map from Feeding America that shows their partner food pantries and mobile food giveaways for the entire state of Michigan. Use the map to focus in on Grand Rapids and explore the dozens of places to get food.
